Transforming Stress Into Well-Being - Session 5

Session 5 – Practicing Joy

Stress is a result of an imbalance, a habit that we pick up from our environment. Stress traps us; it holds us down. We can change the program, from thinking, “I am stressed,” shift the emphasis to the body, to stillness, breath, openness, and awareness. In stillness, the heart and mind united. We can restore balance by resetting the program around a vision, around an ideal, around what needs to be done. Then aliveness will come forth; a genuine engagement in everyday activities evokes joy and caring. Instead of self-image being our baseline, the love of doing becomes our foundation. Practicing Joy and openness are ways to awaken and free the true self.

When our energy is not flowing, we drag around a lazy body; we do not want to do what needs to be done. A helpless mind is a mind that is easily distracted. We become victims of negative thoughts, of an inner dialog that rejects everything. A “Yes, but” pattern is a reluctant response to life and something that hinders our ability to proceed. A willing mind, on the other hand, is engaged in full participation, the experience is fresh and direct. We can elevate stress by becoming interested and engaged. Focus on what is important, meaningful, and what needs to get done.

Exercises: from Kum Nye Dancing #54, #15.
