Decatur Georgia Garbage Truck Compilation

A small compilation featuring some of the variety the city of Decatur has to offer.

Decatur is certainly one of the more unique operations in Georgia. This small city just outside Atlanta has a fleet of roughly 20 total collection vehicles. Some being rear loaders, some being front loaders, a few Par Kans, and a handful of Kubota scooters. Everything here is still manual via PAYT bags for trash, tubs and carts for recycling, bags and manual bins for yard waste, and tubs for recycling. What I think is most fascinating and makes Decatur most unique, is their Kubota scooters. Usually these are used in cities of entirely backyard service, but for whatever reason Decatur uses them for normal curbside collection. The scooters are used for trash mainly, and yard waste during some times of the year. Watching them dump into the rear loaders is an awesome sight to see. While the whole process is definitely on the slower side, I still thoroughly enjoy watching it. Onto some more specifics of the trucks

0:00 We start off with one of the scooters doing the dump process into a Crane Carrier Heil Powertrack. Super friendly driver behind the wheel of both of these trucks. And I absolutely love CCCs so it was a real treat to be able to follow this truck around. Pretty darn good sounding too

2:42 Here’s just some normal footage of one of the scooters grabbing some normal curbside stops. So funny to me seeing these little things rip around the streets. Would not mind trying it myself one day.

3:57 Here is one of the Par Kans that does the glass collection. A number of places around Georgia have started to do separate glass collection over the last few years, but nobody does it quite like this. While it is unique, I didn’t think it was worth getting much footage of so I just grabbed this clip for the compilation.

4:22 Next up is the city’s 320 Heil 5000. This truck is definitely one of the less interesting trucks the city has. Therefore I don’t have to much to say about it. After he grabs the first two stops on his own, you can see a scooter with a couch in the back getting dumped into it. I was certainly shocked when I saw him pull onto the Main Street with a big ole couch hanging out the back. Happy I was able to catch it being unloaded.

8:06 This is the only recycle truck I managed to catch. And unfortunately this is all the footage I got because the few crew wasn’t too fond of filming. But this is a super nice truck. This is I believe the newest truck in their fleet. Right after the LR New Way (not featured unfortunately)

10:09 Last but not least, an old Leach that I didn’t even know they still ran. Found it doing yard waste pretty quickly. Pretty weird to see scooters doing yard waste lol. Not to many can say they’ve witnessed such a thing. Would love to catch this truck on trash or something if it ever runs trash. But I have a feeling this truck is some sort of spare or a truck they just use for yard waste when they collect it separately.
