Wayne Brady says 'Let's Make a Deal' contestants sometimes arrive drunk or high
Wayne Brady revealed that in the early days of hosting Let’s Make a Deal, some contestants would show up drunk or high before tapings. Although such incidents are now rare, Brady noted that today's audiences generally come prepared and sober, knowing the interactive and improvisational nature of the show. He emphasized that participants typically want to be alert so they don’t embarrass themselves on national television. Drew Carey, host of The Price Is Right, shared similar experiences, saying it’s common for contestants to arrive under the influence. He recounted one contestant who was allegedly “tripping on mushrooms” and called himself a “skateboarding rabbi.” Carey explained that many contestants are everyday people, not celebrities or wealthy individuals, and may use substances to ease pre-show anxiety. He expressed understanding and noted that these individuals represent a diverse cross-section of America, adding that their unpredictability often makes for better TV than celebrity appearances.
