OLD PIANO MAKEOVER | CHALK PAINT DIY | HOME DECOR INSPO | HOUSE + HOLM

Hi friends! I am so excited to be sharing our simple piano makeover. We were able to completely transform the aesthetic of our $50 used Wurlitzer Piano with chalk paint and a little distressing around the edges. Our all in cost (piano included) was less than $100, and we are so happy with how it turned out.

EASY STEPS:
1. Take removable pieces off. We chose to remove the hardware as well, and spray painted it black. We also spray painted the pedals black (prior to painting the piano).
2. To shiplap the front of the piano, we used 1/4 inch plywood, cut down into 5 3/4 inch strips. We then cut them to length, and began attaching them to the piano with a nail gun, using nickels as our spacers. We used 1 inch finishing brads in our nail gun so that they didn't stick out and attach to or damage anything behind the panel.
3. Gently sand the entire piano. If you have cherry wood, make sure to sand VERY lightly, otherwise the cherry will bleed. If this happens, you can use a shellac spray and then paint over the shellac.
4. Wipe everything down to get rid of the sand dust.
5. Prepare your paint. We used a Valspar Chalk Paint (any chalk paint will do). Start with a thin layer of chalk paint over the entire piano to create a base coat so each subsequent layer will adhere nicely. Allow plenty of time for paint to dry between layers. Do as many layers as you need in order to achieve your desired look. We did 3 full coats of an off-white chalk paint.
6. Distress with sandpaper.
7. Wipe any remaining sandpaper dust off of the piano and apply one coat of clear wax. Allow plenty of time for drying, and then ENJOY your beautiful piano!
