2024 BMW 5 Series and 7 Series Highly Automated Driving Demonstration

The BMW 7 Series is set to introduce Level 3 highly automated driving with the new BMW Personal Pilot L3 function. This feature enables drivers to temporarily disengage from steering responsibilities and shift their attention away from the road in specific situations. BMW Personal Pilot L3 takes control of the car's speed, maintains a safe distance from the vehicle in front, and ensures proper lane positioning.

This cutting-edge option, available for order in the new BMW 7 Series (excluding the i7 eDrive50 and i7 M70 xDrive) from December, can be integrated into vehicles starting March of the following year. Designed to meet the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Level 3 capability standards, this highly automated driving function is priced at 6,000 euros (including VAT) and is initially offered exclusively in Germany.

The technology allows drivers to divert their attention to other in-vehicle activities while traveling at speeds up to 60 km/h (37 mph) on motorways with structurally separated carriageways. Notably, the system's sophisticated sensors enable its use even in low-light conditions, marking a significant advancement in automated driving technology.
