Horszowski plays Liszt Légende I: St. Francis of Assisi preaching to the birds

Franz Liszt (1811-1886)
2 Légendes, S.175
1. St François d'Assise: la prédication aux oiseaux / Die Vogelpredikt des Heiligen Franziskus von Assisi / St. Francis of Assisi: The Sermon to the Birds
Mieczysław Horszowski (June 23, 1892 -- May 22, 1993), piano
Recorded in 1940 (Vatican Radio recording)
Note: I think the historical significance is more important than the audio quality.
These Vatican Radio recordings are not only the earliest solo recordings of Horszowski (he recorded some cello sonatas with Casals in the 30s but never solo pieces in the 78rpm era), they are also one of the first ever of a pianist that is recorded on tape, as the tape recorder was just invented in Nazi Germany. An archivist of the Vatican Radio was just in time to transfer the tape to a modern recorder, as it was already beginning to fall apart.
