Buffalo Bayou Rising - Aerials (Hurricane Harvey Flooding)

OFFICIAL SELECTION - 2017 Flying Robot International Film Festival

This short video shows some of the aerials I shot of Hurricane Harvey flooding in Texas. As you will see, the flooding is immense just in this small portion of Houston. Watch and then multiply what you see by three or four hundred to get a rough idea of Harvey's flooding. A hurricane's impact can be categorized in three ways; storm surge, wind, and flooding from rain. Katrina is the queen of surge, while Harvey is the champion of flooding. Harvey also produced tornado-like wind damage where it made landfall father south.

I shot this material on 4K using my DJI Inspire 2 and a DJI 17mm f/1.7 lens. You'll notice a little rocking due some some high wind gusts. Overall, it managed the conditions well. None of the locations where in controlled air space and were cleared with present law enforcement prior to flight. The pilot is FAA certified and has 30 years of experience filming in disaster areas and around severe weather.
