Nature, life, and self: Christopher Alexander after a pattern language
It's hard to do good work, with or without a pattern language, unless you use some form of judgment. Alexander found the most profound judgment is based on how well you can connect with the underlying structure of nature. To be alive in this way, your work has to act as a mirror of your true self. This is explained in detail by the four volumes of The Nature of Order.
Filmed in 1995 by David Heine of Aspect Productions.
Produced and edited by Greg Bryant of Rain Magazine.
With many thanks to Christopher Alexander, Maggie Moore Alexander, Olga Volchkova, Yodan Rofè, the Center for Environmental Structure, the Building Beauty school of architecture, and countless collaborators.
