Arduino Pinball Machine - 3d Printing & Lasercutting

A Arduino controlled pinball machine comprised of lasercut and 3d printed parts.

The flippers and pop bumpers are actuated by solenoids.
The copper tape on the pop bumpers serve as switches, which are activated via conduction with the metal ball.
Each solenoid is driven via a NMOS mosfet switch, whose gate is biased by the Arduino.

When the ball enters the spiral, it rolls down a tunnel under the play field and is elevated back up via a servo arm. The servo arm picks up the ball at the bottom of the ramp and rotates 180 degrees for the ball to fall out.

There are IR sensors / receiver pairs to detect when the round is lost or when the ball enters the spiral ramp.

The score is incremented whenever the pop bumpers are actuated or when the ball enters the spiral. The score and remaining balls are shown on three 7 segment displays, which are controlled via BJT and shift registers. Only one display is active at a given time, but there are pulsed quickly for the persistence-of-vision effect.

The system is powered by a 19v laptop charger. The 19v is fed directly to the solenoid circuits, but also regulated to 5v for the Arduino and other components.
