The ghost army the fooled Hitler

Officially, they were the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops. History would remember them as the Ghost Army.

From Normandy to the Rhine, they staged more than 20 deception operations, impersonating entire units to draw German forces away from where the real Allied troops were massing. Time and again, they placed themselves in mortal danger with weapons that couldn’t fire a single shot — and it worked. Their illusions are believed to have saved thousands of Allied lives.

And then they vanished. Their story stayed classified for over 50 years, hidden from the world until 1996. In 2024, the last survivors were finally honored with the Congressional Gold Medal.

This is the true story of the army that fought Hitler with rubber tanks and sound — and won.
