I Am Not Going to Change 400 Years in Four | Independent Lens | PBS

When Satana Deberry was sworn in as district attorney of Durham County, North Carolina in 2019, it was history in the making—for the city of Durham and for her, as a Black woman elected to an office historically held by white men whose policies disproportionately affected communities of color for the longest time. But Deberry has the twin challenges of facing a skeptical community ravaged by gun violence while trying to reform a deeply flawed criminal justice system.
