I discuss how to set horses up for success by spreading hay into several piles so horses can be pushed off and not have to defend their food. I show horses that allow me to approach and invade their space and I show horses that get a little protective of their hay and do not want to yield to me. The big mistake a lot of people make if they feed horses by gates, corners, water and they get lazy and do not make multiple plies of hay. When you only put one or two piles the high horses get the food and the lower horses learn to fight to eat. This is how horses are "taught" to be food protective and aggressive, by humans that do not think like a horse or understand horses, herd behavior and pecking order.
