BUDDHIST MONKS | What is a Rains Retreat?

Many people are looking for the opportunity to become Buddhist monks, especially Buddhist monks in Thailand at Wat Phra Dhammakaya. The program specifically that we have for international monks is called IDOP, which is short for the International Dhammadayadas Ordination Program. This program gives westerners the opportunity to live and train as a Theravada monks. This program is spoken in English and welcomes men from all around the world.

Once the temporary 30-45 day ordination program is completed, the monks enter into the 3 months rains retreat or "pansa" at Prachin Buri Province. During this Rains Retreat, this is the time that men continue their monastic training with the dhamma and meditation. Life for the Buddhist monks slows down and they experience what is like to truly live the life of a monk.
