In this video, I discuss how the best-performing stocks of the previous decade rarely outperform over the next 10 years.

At the beginning of the 1980's, investors favored oil stocks and other U.S. stocks. Commodity stocks ended up underperforming, while Japanese stocks did really well.

At the beginning of the 1990's, investors favored Japanese stocks. They were underweight U.S. stocks and tech stocks in particular, which ended up being the best performers of the decade.

At the beginning of the 2000's, investors were massively overweight U.S. TMT stocks, which ended up having a lost decade. Instead, commodity and emerging market stocks did really well.

At the beginning of the 2010's, investors were overweight commodity stocks and Chinese stocks, both of which had a lost decade. They were underweight FAANG stocks, which ended up driving most of the performance of the decade.

As we begin the 2020's, investors are overweight index funds and FAANG stocks. This suggests that both will underperform in the coming decade. There is also a good change that emerging markets outperform the U.S.

For the 2020's, I am most excited about gold and gold stocks, Bitcoin, biotech, and virtual reality.
