Alternative gaming is very important and has been since 2012. I and our team think that arthouse games is the trend, where things are going. People want more substance, not just entertainment and fun but reflective and intelligent games. Just like the effect of a book or a good film."

The A Maze. gaming festival has kicked off in Berlin.

The three-day event is the place for independent video games makers to try to gain traction for their new games and products.

STORYLINE:

This is the A Maze. gaming festival in Berlin - the place to be for independent video game developers.

The three-and-a-half-day event showcases all that's new in the world of independent gaming.

Experimental game and VR creators, digital artists, musicians and other creatives from various countries have flocked to the festival.

One of them is New York-based games developer, Claire Kwong.

Her game “Between” is interactive, taking players away from the computer screen.

The game features a camera that detects people holding hands. The camera then projects the game onto the floor where the aim is for the two people to work together to move the shapes shown on the ground into squares.

“I really wanted to make people touch, because I'm kind of shy and I'm kind of touch-phobic myself. So, I wanted to find a way to make a game to, you know, address that and get over that, you know. I feel like I have,” says Kwong.

Another game to feature at the 13th edition of the A Maze. festival in Berlin is called “Dissecting Love."

In it, two doctors discuss their relationship while operating on a patient.
