(Russian planners envisioned nine Energia launches would deliver the vehicle's components for on-orbit assembly before commencement of a 460 day Mars mission. The crew of five would spend 200 days outbound, 30 days on the surface, and 200 days on the return leg. Two landing craft were planned to dock laterally to the transfer vehicle – one for Mars landing and ascent, and one for Earth return. Although the landers are not provided here they may appear in a future release.)
