American Bandstand 1969 – October 11, 1969 FULL EPISODE with The Grass Roots
”Monty Python’s Flying Circus” premieres on BBC One, The “Miracle Mets” defeat the Baltimore Orioles in the World Series, Diana Ross and the Supremes (The Andantes in this case) release their final single “Someday We’ll Be Together”, Paul McCartney appears in public to refute long-standing “Paul is dead” rumors, and UCLA sends the first message, the letters “LO”, (it was supposed to be the word LOG, but the system crashed before they could send the G) to Stanford Research Institute over ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network), the primitive forerunner of the internet……it’s October 1969!
American Bandstand salutes The Grass Roots as Warren Entner and the band appear today to promote their album “Lovjn’ Things”. In addition to “The River is Wide”, used for the Spotlight Dance, and “Pain”, used for the last dance number, the band performs the song “(You Gotta) Live For Love”. Creed Bratton, from “The Office”, played guitar and sang on the album and even appears on the album cover, but he had left the band (or was kicked out) back in April.
There is precious little information out there on the artist Beau Sybin, other than that he released a few singles in 1969 including the song he sang today. Any Beau Sybin fans out there?
On the Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 today:
1) Sugar, Sugar – The Archies
2) Jean – Oliver
3) Little Woman – Bobby Sherman
4) I Can’t Get Next To You – The Temptations
5) Hot Fun In The Summertime - Sly and the Family Stone
6) Everybody’s Talkin’ - Nilsson
11) Suspicious Minds – Elvis Presley
15) Baby It’s You - Smith
16) Get Together - The Youngbloods
I hope you enjoyed todays episode and…just in the off chance, or just in case it should slip your mind or anyone should ever ask you, you’re watching American Bandstand! :)
Stay safe and healthy everyone!
