In a unique collaboration with the band, we are releasing the first ever compilation of Balka Sound from Congo-Brazzaville, bringing together their incredible early '80s recordings.

After Albert Nkibi had risen to fame domestically in 1972 with his solo hit ‘Ah Lusialala’, Balka Sound was created to modernise the sound of Balka, a folk style from the Beembe people and bring it to an international audience. The band re-imagined traditional Congolese Balka rhythms using the traditional 5-string ngonfi, electric guitars, electric bass and drums. The single ‘Ah Lusialala’ is released today across all digital streaming platforms.
