Balka Sound - Bia Sala (Heritage)
Stream/ Buy - https://strut.k7store.com/balka-sound
If you love 1980s African sounds as much as we do, this one’s for you! In unique collaboration with the band, we are releasing the first ever compilation of Balka Sound from Congo-Brazzaville, bringing together their incredible early '80s recordings.
While rumba dominated the music scene in Congo, Balka Sound found their inspiration within local country life, associating the modern and the traditional and reviving folk traditions that were being lost over time. Led by revered vocalist and ngonfi player, Nkibi “Lusialala” Albert, they created their own unique musical world, re-imagining traditional Congolese Balka rhythms with electric guitars, electric bass and drums, alongside the traditional 5-string ngonfi.
With early support from NTS, BBC Radio 3 'Late Junction', The Wire, Songlines, Le Monde (FR), Pan African Music and more, we are excited to share this special release with you. Now available on Double LP, CD and digital formats.
"Balka music is finally immortalized." Pan African Music
Lyrics:
BIA SALA
Chœur:
Ah ! Wou Wouah !
Couplet 1:
Ils etaient tous braves.
Vois les villages qu’ils ont bâtis.
Vois les chemins qu’ils ont tracés.
Pense aux souffrances qu’ils ont endurées.
Musique
Cris en solo
Ah a a a a a ! Mama
Toi tu travailles aujourd’hui pour ceux qui mangent
Ils affluent de toutes parts.
Même les crapauds sautent de joie pour l’héritage.
Couplet 2:
Leurs œuvres accomplies.
Admire-les donc
Ils étaient tous braves !
Quelque soit leur origine !
Quelque soit leur langue.
Quelle bravoure !
Ecoute donc
English :
Chorus:
Ah Wou Ya
Your current works,
They come to you from your ancestors
How brave they all were!
What memories they left!
Look and see!
What you produce and what you consume
Comes to you from their courage
So look and see
Listen up, Papa
They were all brave.
See the villages they built.
See the paths they have traced.
Think of the suffering they endured.
Ah a a a a a! Mama
You work today for those who eat
They come in crowds from everywhere.
Even the toads jump for joy for the inheritance
Their accomplished works.
You must admire.
They were all brave!
From all backgrounds!
Of all languages.
What bravery!
So listen
