"I want to request to the international community, especially the West and the Americans, that they should stress upon the restoration of the judiciary, restoration of those judges who have not taken oath on the PCOs (Provisional Constitutional Orders). STORYLINE:
Protests against the imposed state of emergency continued in Pakistan on Thursday, as the opposition claimed hundreds of its supporters were detained overnight to head off a major protest against emergency rule.
Hundreds of lawyers marched through the streets of Islamabad, continuing their protests against President General Pervez Musharraf's dismissal of the country's top judges and his imposition of emergency rule.
One lawyer at the rally called for the international community to put more pressure on Musharraf to restore Pakistan's judiciary.
"We don't want only some of the news that they are condemning about the imposition of the emergency but they are not condemning about the suspension of the judges," said Reza Niazi at the rally in Islamabad.
Meanwhile, more than 100 students and professors boycotted classes and marched on the campus of the state-run University of the Punjab in the eastern city of Lahore to protest against country's military ruler and paying tribute to the deposed Supreme Court chief justice.
"We are here to pay tribute to those persons who have refused to take oath under PCO (Provisional Constitutional Orders) and all those judge, all the media personnels and all those who are now struggling against this dictatorship ruling over this country," student protester Reza Niazi told AP Television.
Days of protests, most by lawyers angered by the attacks on the judiciary, have been quickly and sometimes brutally put down.
Authorities suspect Islamic militants in that attack.
