UK-based dissident Chichvarkin says many worried since poisoning
(16 Mar 2018) The nerve-agent attack on former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter has brought fear to other Russian dissidents in Britain, anti-Putin campaigner Yevgeny Chichvarkin said on Friday.
Chichvarkin fled to London in 2009 after being charged with kidnapping and extortion in Russia.
He now runs a luxury wine store in London's exclusive Mayfair district.
He said many Russians in the UK were now worried about their personal safety since the attack on Skripal.
Moscow wanted so-called traitors to suffer a slow and public death, Chichvarkin asserted.
However, for his own part, he saw no reason why Putin would want to have him killed.
Chichvarkin has organised a demonstration outside the Russian Embassy on Sunday to protest against the presidential elections, which Putin seems set to win by a landslide.
He dismissed the elections as "fake", claiming that genuine opponents of Putin weren't being given airtime on state-run media.
