Outlaw Star is interesting show for many of its unique ideas: Chinese-Japanese Science-Fantasy, hyper-kinetic animation, spaceships with arms, magic space wizards, a cat... Outlaw Star is and was a very lively topic. The end credits are Outlaw Star's greatest mystery though. Unlike the show, the end credits are subdued, monochromatic, and almost melancholic. There is a vast gap between the aesthetics of the show itself and the almost Romantic illustrations of the end credits. Both seem to represent opposite poles of the same reality. Or an inverted future-past and past-future? These illustrations are worth consideration on their own. The actual credits offer only one name for their creator: "Hikaru Tanaka". Or is it Hicaru Tanaka? The name is an interesting issue.

Hicaru Tanaka is somewhat of a mystery even in Japan. His web presence has largely atrophied in the past decade. He is and was a Science Fiction or Fantasy illustrator with a remarkable style. Yet, internationally, he is largely only known for the Outlaw Star credits sequence. His paintings and illustrations leave an unreal impact. Women who drift through the vast unknown cosmos of a reality at least partially similar to ours. The issue of finding Hicaru Tanaka on the Internet is a similar journey of familiar and foreign worlds. Time does not seem to exist here.

So upon what distance worlds do we see the Imaginative Realism of Hicaru Tanaka?
