ONE YEAR OFF GRID | 12 months progress on rural land in Spain | V.18

On 31st July 2020, we bought a plot of rural land in the mountains in Spain, with 12 acres of walled terraced land and a small stone house.

Our long term plan is to complete a barn conversion and turn the stone house into a beautiful tiny house to live off the land, growing our own fruits and vegetables and utilising water harvesting and purifying systems, as well as permaculture land management methods.

In the short term, we need to build a cabin so that we have somewhere safe and secure to stay when we start the barn conversion project.

Having owned our off grid land for one year, we’ve actually only been able to visit it for around 30 days over the last 12 months. Despite the global pandemic, multiple lockdowns and taking time off for our wedding(!!) we made good progress during those days, throughout our first year as mortgage free homeowners.

This is the story of our first years progress the land–what we have learnt, the projects we have started, and the beginning of our first major project… our off grid cabin build.
