London Underground: Christmas crowds at Oxford Circus station

Today we are at Oxford Circus in the West End of London. Oxford Circus is the intersection of Regent Street and Oxford Street in one of the major shopping districts of London. Oxford Street, Regent Street and the surrounding areas are beautifully decorated during the Christmas period.

Besides many buses, Oxford Circus is also a busy station on the London Underground, served by the Bakerloo, Central, and Victoria lines. During peak hours, the station can get very busy with all the shoppers and business workers going in and out of the area.

The film starts at nearby Carnaby Street, showing the beautiful Christmas decoration. We then move to the busy street intersection at Oxford Circus with its many buses, before we go underground towards the station platforms. Some platforms are manually dispatched by London Underground staff during peak hours, and one can hear them make announcements to aid the flow of people and to avoid congestion. The film shows all three Underground lines: The Victoria line is operated by the most modern stock, 2009 Tube Stock; the Central line uses 1992 Tube Stock, while the Bakerloo line uses the oldest stock anywhere on the Underground, 1972 Tube Stock.

The Victoria and Central line are driven automatically using ATO, whilst the Bakerloo line is driven manually.

Enjoy!

This film was shot just prior to the evening rush hour on Monday, 4th of December, 2017.
