Emotional A Minor Chord Progression with Chromatic Bass

In this video, I explore a chord progression in A minor that I consider among the most melancholic and emotionally intense. The mood—though subjective—is largely shaped by the chromatically descending bass line combined with the minor tonality. While the melody contributes significantly, it’s this progression that truly sets the atmosphere.
A brief note on the D#°7 chord: I view it as the diminished seventh built on the seventh scale degree of E, the dominant key, which commonly resolves to E7. This explains its notation as vii°/V in Roman numeral analysis.
What’s interesting is that the E7 chord doesn’t come right away. Instead, there’s a classical-style tonic chord in second inversion—melancholic by nature—that functions like an appoggiatura, preparing the arrival of the actual E7 chord shortly after.
