Indian Fry Bread at Taos Pueblo Powwow
July 16, 2011 — It's so bad but yet it's so good. For years nutritionists have been telling Native people that fry bread is one of the worst things to eat. It's deep fat-fried, consumed with beans, cheese and chile, sometimes coated with powdered sugar or dripping with honey. When served with a bowl of red or green, fans consider it the perfect way to mop it up. Of course, it's got to be one of the baddest things for the human body. But, when visitors to the annual Taos Pueblo Powwow can attest, it's not a powwow without a piece of fry bread.
