Maya Plisetskaya & Nicolas Economou: Dance Impressions (Improvisation I)

This fascinating interaction between dance and music was recorded 1990 in studio with prima ballerina assoluta Maya Plisetskaya and pianist Nicolas Economou. Taking his cue from Plisetskaya’s movements and the moods she creates with her fanciful characterisation, Economou improvises at the piano. Together they create a spontaneously expressive presentation in sound and vision.

"Terpsichore, the muse of dance, descended on earth and began to dance. Her audience was apathetic - the dance was too perfect. Moscow, 1925. A dance is born on November 20th. Her name: Maya Michailowna Plisetskaya. Maya Plisetskaya, prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Ballet was triumphantly acclaimed throughout the world. Choreographers like Roland Petit and Maurice Béjart were inspired to create ballets for her."
