Nicolas Economou: Improvisation II (from "Dance Impressions" with Maya Plisetskaya)

This fascinating interaction between dance and music was recorded 1990 in studio with prima ballerina assoluta Maya Plisetskaya and pianist Nicolas Economou. Taking his cue from Plisetskaya’s movements and the moods she creates with her fanciful characterisation, Economou improvises at the piano. Together they create a spontaneously expressive presentation in sound and vision.

"Cyprus, 1953. A pianist is born in Nicosia on 11th August. His name: Nicolas Economou. Only five years later he learned under George Arvanitakis how to play professionally. In Athens, at the age of eleven, he won the first prize in the Panhellenic Piano Competition. And in Moscow he studied piano and composition, thanks to a grant from the Soviet Government."
