How do we change the value we give to the care of children and family? Anne-Marie Slaughter sat down with Google’s Laszlo Bock to talk about mothers, fathers, and how organizations and society should better support parents and children.

At the re:Work 2016 event, Slaughter, President and CEO of New America and author of Unfinished Business, spoke of shifting the balance around how we value working for a paycheck versus working for our families. “We have totally devalued mother’s traditional work. The work of investing in the family, of turning that pile of dollars into shelter and food and education and discipline,” she said. “We need to value it across the board, and not just make room for it. This is not just: ‘Work is the important thing and if you have a baby or care for your own parents or an ill spouse, well we’ll make room for that.’ We need to embrace that.”
