Both the 2009 and 2010 vintages were among the highest-rated in the history of Bordeaux. It seemed impossible after a vintage like 2009 that the year after could prove so strong. And yet, the critics all unanimously agreed. The 2010 Vintage was among the best they'd ever seen. The other thing they agreed on - it needed time. 8-10 years was the minimum they were suggesting before even thinking about cracking. So here we are in 2020 sitting on our hands after a decade waiting for the clock to strike 12. The time has arrived and i'm tasting across the board to see how they're doing!
Among my selections was the top rated wine of the vintage - the 2010 Chateau Pontet Canet. The little 5th growth that could scored 100 points from our friend Mr. Parker and proved once again, title and stature are not everything.
At 99 points the Troplong Mondot from St. Emilion checks the box for how the right bank is doing. But I also wanted to see about something a little more under the radar - Chateau Lascombes from Margaux. The Lascombes is the least expensive of the bunch at about$129 and while certainly not inexpensive, a contender I felt worthy of inclusion due to its place as a 2nd growth and a property on the rise.
