Taiwan lays groundwork for 6G development

Taiwan’s Ministry of Digital Affairs has initiated the groundwork for 6G technology, with plans to finalize a spectrum allocation strategy by year-end to prepare for an anticipated commercial launch by 2030.

The ministry aims to deliver high-speed, low-latency coverage by merging satellite and non-terrestrial networks, ensuring that Taiwan’s infrastructure adheres to international standards for seamless global connectivity.

Recognizing that licensing and infrastructure development can take years, officials are prioritizing early planning for specific frequency bands that could potentially provide 20 times the network capacity of existing 5G systems.
