Grizzlies @ Lakers, January 14, 2002 | With Shaq suspended for throwing two punches at Brad Miller in the previous game @ Chicago, the Lakers needed Kobe to be more aggressive and look for his shot against the struggling Grizzlies. Kobe was in attack mode right from the jump, scoring 18 points in the first quarter, including multiple viscous dunks at the rim. He continued in the 2nd quarter, tacking on another 18 points to give him 36 points in the first half, just one point shy of tying Elgin Baylor's franchise record of 37 first half points. #8 took it up a notch in the third quarter, hanging 20 more points on the Grizzlies, giving him a new career high of 56 points (21-34 FG) in just three quarters. With the Lakers up 98-59 after three, Kobe's services weren't needed in the 4th quarter.
