Is Scrivener worth it? Watch and decide for yourself.
In this video, I give you a quick overview of the three main working areas of the Scrivener user interface and what they are used for so that you get a general idea of how Scrivener works.
This covers:
The Scrivener Binder which is a document browser that keeps all the files and folders pertaining to the project together in one place. Why you can’t place images in the Draft folder, where to place them instead and what the other folders in the Binder are for.
Where to place your research and how to view it, and how to get rid of your unwanted documents via the trash folder
Then I show you the different view modes that you can set to view your documents in Scrivener and how they work:
Text editing mode or Scrivenings mode
Corkboard mode
Outliner mode
Distraction-free Compose mode or Composition mode
How to split your screen in Split Screen mode to view two documents or two views of the same document at the same time.
Followed by a walk through all the available tabs in the Inspector menu and what they are used for. Including
• The notes tab with the synopsis window for your index cards and how to switch it to show images
• The bookmarks tab where you can add document bookmarks or project bookmarks linked internally within your project or on the internet or yout hard drive.
• The meta-data tab, including how Scrivener makes use of Section Types to lay out your documents correctly when you compile for export
• The Snapshots tab which allows you to take snapshots of your documents and compare them incase you want to revert to a previous iteration of your document.
• And the Comments and Footnotes tab and how to add comments and footnotes to your documents.
Then how to resize containers in the user interface or hide sections that you don’t need at present.
