Things that are different in Dutch flats
In this video I talk about 5 things that are different in Dutch flats compared to flats I’ve previously stayed at in the UK. I’ll be talking about dishwashers, lack of curtains, the toilet, washing machine & dryer and extra storage.
1)Dishwashers
Dishwashers are surprisingly common here. Even if the kitchen is very small, they’ll still make space for a smaller dishwasher.
2)Lack of curtains
This isn’t applicable to all flats, but it’s quite surprising how some flats (for example a ground floor flat on a busy road) don’t have curtains or blinds.
3)The toilet
I’m used to there being one bathroom which has the toilet, shower/bathtub and sink. Here the toilet tends to be in a room by itself and is separate from the shower/bathtub. This is helpful as they can be used separately.
4)Washing machine and dryer
Some flats have a separate room for the washing machine and dryer. Alternatively these appliances are sometimes placed in the bathroom too.
5)Extra storage
This isn’t applicable to all flats, but some have extra storage either in the basement or on another floor within the apartment block itself. This is usually a single lockable room.
