Piano Broken Chords - The 2 Patterns Every Player Needs
Learn 2 essential broken chord piano patterns over a G major chord progression with left hand variations, swing feel, and accompaniment tips
📥 Grab the handwritten notes, staff notation, MIDI files & MuseScore file (G major + E major) and support us on Patreon 🎹🎼
Tired of your piano playing sounding stuck on block chords? In this lesson, Jason Zac breaks down 2 foundational broken chord patterns that will instantly upgrade your accompaniment playing.
We work through a beautiful G major chord progression (G – C – Em – D – C/G – G) using smooth second inversion voicings around middle C. You'll learn how to shift between chords with common tones and minimal hand movement.
The two core patterns covered are the 'Out-Two-In-One' (great for a steady, pumping feel) and the 'Out-In-Out-In' pattern (ideal for faster tempos and swing feel). We also explore volume control, accenting different beats, triplet feel variations, and how to add an extra top note for richer textures.
On the left hand side, we go beyond simple root notes — you'll learn to play octaves, toggle between root and fifth, add passing bass notes, and sprinkle in ghost notes for a more professional sound. Plus, tips on singing chord tones while accompanying yourself.
This lesson is perfect for intermediate pianists, worship players, singer-songwriters, and anyone wanting to build solid accompaniment skills. Grab your keyboard and play along!
📥 Download the handwritten notes, staff notation, MIDI file, and MuseScore file (notated in both G major and E major) on our Patreon. Want more structured learning? Fill out the course enquiry form in the description to learn with us online or at our Bangalore studios.
