Log Cabin Cheat for small pieces, with tips
I'm working on a 6" log cabin block. Each piece is 1 1/4" wide. I use 2 same size squares in the center of my block. As a shortcut I cut my strips from those two fabrics and sewed them together. Then I cut the strip set into 1 1/4" rectangles. This avoids errors piecing tiny squares together. When I add the next piece I make sure my 1/4" is consistent all the way to the end of the seam. You'll know because the resulting unit is slightly wonky. (See thumbnail) If that happens you'll have to redo the whole seam or re sew part of the seam.
