Being an executor of an estate can be a thankless job. You have to deal with lawyers, courts, and judges. The heirs may not like the way you do your job. It can be an awful lot of time, hassle and paperwork. So why would someone want to be an executor? Well, here's three reasons.
(1) Honor Some people are motivated to be an executor because being an executor may be the final act of kindness and respect that you can do to honor the life and memory of the deceased.
(2) Money. An executor is entitled to compensation that is based on a percentage of the value of the probate assets.
(3) Power. Some executors get satisfaction out of being in charge of settling an estate.
