Coronavirus’ Effect On Estate Planning
The coronavirus is having a major impact on our economy, including the "estate planning economy."
We work with the elderly. Their first concern, right now, is staying healthy - as it should be. It's important that you follow our leaders' guidelines to keep our communities healthy.
Many estate planning clients around the country, out of an abundance of caution, have decided to cancel or postpone discussions with their estate attorney - they want to remain self-quarantined in their home.
Others have decided to keep their estate progress moving along by going to their estate attorney's office, but avoid handshakes, hugs, close contact, and large gatherings.
I think that the point that most estate attorneys want to make is that our seniors should, first, take all precautions to remain healthy. Second, for those who are concerned about having estate legal affairs in order, they should reach out to their attorney by phone or email.
While many elderly "like" the face to face contact of meeting with an estate attorney, the "face to face" part of it is not necessary. We've helped many, many clients around our state without physically being in the same room as them. With the technology that exists today, a "virtual estate planning attorney" is no longer out of the ordinary.
