I am not a medical professional but a Dr. in science and have a PhD in physics and math. Animals can live 10 to 40 times longer without a change in genes, with insect-eating microbats living up to 40 years and fruit-eating megabats up to 15 years. Insoluble fibers in fruits and chitin in insects can be fermented in the gut to produce short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which reduce gut transit time and support gut health.
As we age, stomach acidity and enzyme production decline compared to young adults. Meat cooking at 100°C or above leads to reduced protein digestibility in the digestive tract. To improve digestability, meat can be cooked with digestive enzymes at temperatures from 57 to 63 °C for 6–8 hours.
A pressure cooker can hydrolyze collagen found in bones, ligaments, and cartilage into water-soluble gelatin and amino acids such as glycine, proline, arginine, and others. Deep-water oceanic fish, such as mackerel and herring, can be fermented to break down proteins into peptides, similar to the traditional Swedish Surströmming technique.
Transfusions of blood plasma from healthy young individuals to elders have gained popularity for reducing inflammation, but no one human patient has experienced a restoration of youthfulness, health, endurance, or cognitive ability comparable to those seen in laboratory rodents. A more feasible approach involves dietary intake of amino acids, water-soluble proteins, and absorbents to avoid sharp peaks of amino acids in the blood. Mimicking hemolymph consumption could potentially extend human lifespan by including water-soluble proteins, amino acids, vitamins, electrolytes, and organic acids from the Krebs cycle in the diet.
Glutamine (GLN) is a crucial dietary component that aids in maintaining gut integrity and enhancing the gut mucosal barrier. Medical professionals recommend GLN supplements to support gut microbiome health, strengthen the gut mucosal barrier, and modulate inflammatory responses.
Glutamate (GLU) is essential for protecting the gut from oxidative damage and serving as an energy source for enterocytes. Monosodium glutamate (MSG), the sodium salt of glutamic acid, is commonly used as a flavor enhancer and is produced through fermentation of starch, sugar beets, sugarcane, or molasses.
Linus Pauling advocated for high doses of vitamin C and lysine (LYS), which support collagen synthesis, immune function, and reduce viral infections. L-carnitine (LC) transports long-chain fatty acids into mitochondria for energy production and removes metabolic byproducts, which decline with age, potentially contributing to aging effects.
In older age, it is recommended to consume animal proteins up to 2 g per kilogram of body weight. Instead, supplementation with GLY, MSG, TAU, LYS, whey protein, and HMB is beneficial in older age. Oyster mushrooms are widely used as dietary supplements due to their health benefits.
