By the mid-20th century, most European countries had fertility rates below the 2.1 children per woman replacement rate. The rise of predatory feminine behavior and unfavorable divorce practices have made men hesitant to marry, contributing to the MGTOW movement.

New contraceptive technologies have made it easier for women to avoid unintended pregnancies, but unintended pregnancy rates remain high, with 61% ending in abortion in countries where it's legal in 2020. Some studies suggest that universal contraceptive and abortion access may increase promiscuity and sexually transmitted diseases among young women.
