T-Rex Arms Kettlebell Swing

‘Wise up’ - Technique tweaks for improved form, performance and longevity

With kettlebells being super versatile and effective equipment for virtually any goal, it’s no surprise that it’s a top choice for lockdown home workouts or even pushing your boundaries in the gym.

From all the different exercises available, the traditional swing is the most popular. When we dive into the technique and common pitfalls - keeping tall and tension throughout the upper body is an issue coaches see time and again. Mix that with gym go-ers trying to front raise the kettlebell with their shoulders or relaxing too much on the top end of the swing - you’ve got an inefficient swing.

We typically want every swing to be as powerful as the last, with as little ‘lulls’ or ‘breaks’ as possible. Keeping the elbow slightly bent allows you to further lock in your lats and upper back musculature to ensure the bell not only stays close to you, but also in the same ‘groove’ through your whole set.

This ‘tweak’ to your technique may take away your rest at the top of the movement, adding more of a challenge if you're stuck at home with little weight. Instead of aiming for 20+ lackadaisical (it’s a real word I swear) reps, try making each rep as powerful as you can with this!
