Urban Rides Mina and Giraldo dancing Tango to London’s hidden sounds.

We live in big cities, we get around in different ways, some by train, some by bike, many more by car and some others on foot. Urban Rides is a short piece we created in Bow Creek Ecology Park, a remote place in East London, on a small peninsula that serves as an oasis for those of us who sometimes retreat to places that bring us closer to the slow and gentle pace of urban nature. There we met trains, walkers, cyclists, all looking to reach a destination.

We wanted to improvise with the different external and internal rhythms, we fed on the aesthetics of the architecture that surrounded us in this remote peninsula that keeps a historical past in the construction of large ships with industrial areas related to the production of iron and petrol refineries.

We brought the music in our heart's memory, we thought not only of the dance but also of the movements that surrounded us, the contrasts in the rushing or not of the passers-by and the juxtaposed dynamics of urban mobility. With the passing and sound of the train we moved on to a slow musical theme, Cité, almost like a funeral march by Piazzolla, there in the middle of the bridge and the grass we danced, on a quiet day with many echoes of the past, in a contemporary space, with the flavour of the river, the port, the ships and sailors, just as it was once the origins of the Tango of the Río de la Plata.
