The Church of the Nativity, in Bethlehem, is the birthplace of Jesus.
The grotto is the major church in the Holy Land.
It was commissioned by Constantine the Great in 330.
It was destroyed by fire during the Samaritan revolts in 520.
Rebuilt by Byzantine Emperor Justinian in 535.
Who added a porch & a cruciform transept with three apses, atrium and a basilica with four side aisles.
In Crusader period they added wall mosaics & paintings.
The surrounding compound Is 12,000 square meters.
comprising three different monasteries.
A Roman Catholic, A Armenian Apostolic, & A Greek Orthodox.
Since 2012, the Church is a World Heritage Site
