MacGyver T-Drive Duo-dual solenoid linkage for a pair of Maracas
Using two 4N25 opto-isolators and two TIP31C npn power transistors I constructed a two channel opto-isolated solenoid drive control system using a scratch built photo-Darlington solenoid driver.
A 1kOhm resistor limits the LED current to 10mA at 12Vcc
A 1N4007 is used as a flyback diode for the two coils.
This is so that I can drive the solenoid arrays to action using separate power supplies for the input control, ( say delicate logic or PLC ), or something else you don't want the stored energy of a charged inductor to quickly drain through as it drives a plunger with 5N of force. The dual arrangement delivers roughly 10N. When all solenoids fire 20N of force is delivered to the Maracas.
