How to put a Hyundai Sonata in neutral with a dead battery?

To shift a Hyundai Sonata into neutral with a dead battery, locate the shift lock release mechanism. This is typically a small slot or button positioned next to the gear selector lever, often covered by a small plastic cap. Using a flat-head screwdriver, your car key, or a similar small, pointed object, gently pry off this cap. Once the cap is removed, insert the tool into the exposed slot and press down firmly. While holding the shift lock release button or lever down, you can then depress the brake pedal (even if the power assist is gone) and move the gear selector from Park to Neutral. It is crucial to ensure the parking brake is fully engaged before attempting this procedure, especially if the vehicle is on an incline, as the car will be free to roll once in neutral. This bypasses the electronic interlock that prevents shifting out of Park without power.
