Your Hip is a Circle, Not a Square | Tate Englund Yoga
Your hip is a circle. I know you know that. But think about how you train it, especially in yoga. You train it like a square or a box. You have the front of the hip, insides, outsides, and back. Clear cut corners. The problem is you can’t treat a circle like a square. There are no corners or sides to a circle.
In yoga, for example, everything is very linear. We step forward to our lunges, warriors, and balancing postures, or we turn to the side and do some side to side stuff. How often to we actually move the circle?
When we stretch our hamstrings, we take our leg straight forward or wide. When we stretch our hip flexors & quads, we take everything straight forward. Again, very linear.
What to do? Think outside the box. Think like a circle. Adjust the angles of the legs to get different parts of the circle. Move the circle in all directions.
