Yes, the use of “we” was very purposeful… Our sense of community has been declining in the United States, leading to loneliness and isolation that can play into some of the harmful outcomes we are seeing in society today. While technology provides more avenues for connection, it has actually contributed to our ability to do the exact opposite and withdraw into ourselves and our own world. But studies show that community and connection are vital to both individual health and the health of our society. That means taking the time to participate in something bigger than ourselves, even when it has no direct individual benefit. A stronger sense of community is not going to solve all our problems, but we need to get back to caring about things beyond ourselves and our immediate circle. I’m going to focus this year on finding ways to participate and give back to the community during my travels. I’ll be sharing them here and hope you join me! #community #communitysupport
