June 30th, 1992. "Irresistible Force" featured then undefeated 23 year old “Captain Hook” Roy Jones Jr against rugged, iron chinned hard hitting 25 year old Jorge Fernando Castro aka “Locomotora” in a non title Middleweight 10 rounder competed in a 17 foot ring in Roy’s hometown of Pensacola, Florida.

This was young Jones’ acid test, going up against the experienced Argentinian who once fought “Terrible” Terry Norris for the WBC World Super Welterweight Title in December 1991 where he lost via UD12.

Prefight records; Jones 17(17)-0, Castro 70(50)-3-2.

From the get go, the supreme quickness and reflexes of Roy was too much for the slow albeit strong Jorge to handle as he kept getting tagged and unable to retaliate effectively as Jones move out of firing range to make Castro despite the fact that he applied continuous pressure throughout the bout.

In round 2, Castro’s nose was broken courtesy of a leaping left hook.

As a whole, Jorge was dominated and lost nearly every round but showed endless determination where he managed to connect with some looping right hands upstairs and lefts and rights downstairs in a number of occasions, but it was not nearly enough to narrow the disparity in the scorecards.

Even though Castro was outclassed, to his credit he became the 1st fighter to make it to the final bell against Jones who went beyond 9 rounds for the first time while Locomotra had gone over 10 rounds in more than 20 occasions.

The 3 judges had it a a lopsided 100-91, 99-91 & 98-92 for Roy Jones Jr who improved his unbeaten record to 18(17)-0 while guest commentator, former WBA Lightweight Champion Sean O’Grady scored it a shutout 100-90 for the future ATG from Pensacola who certainly thrilled his hometown audiences with this spectacular performance.

Captain Hook went on to achieve a legendary career despite having fought a decade longer than he arguably should have, before retiring with a final record of 66(47)-9 where he became world champion in 4 different weight classes; Middleweight, Super Middleweight, Light Heavyweight & Heavyweight.

Throughout his career that spanned nearly 29 years, he garnered wins over notable oppositions such as Jorge Vaca, Jorge Fernando Castro, Glenn Wolfe, Bernard Hopkins, Thulani Malinga, Thomas Tate, James Toney, Vinny Pazienza, Tony Thornton, Merqui Sosa, Eric Lucas, Mike McCallum, Montell Griffin, Virgil Hill, Lou Del Valle, Reggie Johnson, Otis Grant, Richard Hall, Eric Harding, Julio Cesar Gonzalez, Clinton Woods, John Ruiz, Antonio Tarver & Jeff Lacy.
