First Double Black Switch (Karate Kid Technique)
The last few days riding I have been trying to really focus on my switch riding, today I told myself to snowboard switch the whole day and try to find more difficult runs each time. The start was easy with a warm up on Easy Out, the infamous green run on Blackcomb. Second Run was Jersey Cream Bowl which is technically a double diamond but in reality more of a single.
Then the real test, Spanky's Ladder from the bowls, to the skate out at the end of Blackcomb Glacier and finally the LONG ski out on the cat track to Crystal Ridge Chair. This was definitely the hardest, but not because of the bowls at the top of Spanky's. I felt most uncoordinated when trying to skate out the bottom, the ski out was also quite tough due to the run being narrow and the snow warming up and getting more compact.
The purpose of this is two fold, and where the Karate Kid reference comes in. Improving switch will definitely help some aspects of free riding, but specifically I wanted to get really comfortable riding out of rails and jumps switch. In theory if I can get extremely comfortable riding out switch this will help with trick where I don't land perfectly, or with more speed, and need that level of experience to ride away safely.
Tell me what you think of this idea, and if you have used something like it before. Thanks for watching and please like and subscribe.
