Anticipating the top question: "Why not just go 100% effort for all the runs?"
Answer: For many reasons. 1) Injury risk. 2) Fatigue factor. 3) 100% effort doesn't necessarily equate to faster sprinting times; often 'full' effort means tensing up and actually losing speed. (Just ask Noah Lyles what he did differently when he won the US crown after sub-par heats at the Olympic trials: https://youtu.be/tMO0I1G3594?t=252) . 98% effort is usually the sweet spot for fastest times, at least for me. 4) From almost a philosophical perspective, many coaches argue that it's impossible to go more than 95% effort in training, simply because the preparation isn't the same, and the adrenaline is absent too. Ideally, yes, all the tests would have been done at 'full' effort - but that's not possible from a practical perspective.
